During the year 2005 Petter
Berndalen, Mia Gustafsson & Hanna
Wiskari recorded their music at the Royal College of Music in
Stockholm with Magnus Lindström as their technician.
They play traditional and original nordic folk music with a great
portion of playfulness and a sound knowledge of their genre.
- We asked ourselves if it was possible for the three of us to
play as soloists, with all the freedom that it brings, but as
an ensemble.
- We wanted to find a sound whereby, without renouncing any of
our knowledge about the traditions or our individual styles,
we could find a way to make three instruments sound like one.
-What we realised was that this takes a lot of time and requires
acute listening. You have to really find the synergy as a group
before it starts to work. But when this happens, and the three
of you are playing as one and you can see your own expression
in the other two - that's a magic feeling!

Review - Rootsworld, USA
There is something about trios.
The spare nature of the lineup
and the direct connection between the ear and the individual
musicians make them attractive to me. These same qualities
also make the musicians more attuned to each other, locked
in to nuances that might be missed in a larger ensemble, yet
offering sonic complexities that might elude the duet or solo
performance.
[ni:d] is an instrumental trio from Sweden that
offers an unusual sonic structure (and difficult band name!).
Mia Gustafsson is the violinist, Hanna Wiskari plays saxophones
and Petter Berndalen whacks, strums and caresses kit and frame
drums and all sorts of small percussion.
The violin and saxophone
often play in tight unison or harmony, breaking off to counter
and challenge one another in careful, open improvisations.
These two young women clearly have learned their lessons from
some of the best, and you can hear phrasing that indicates
how much they revere masters of the previous two decades...

Review - Lira, Sweden
" Seems in all respects like a characteristic swedish folk
music production of today, spring 2006."
" When [ni:d] play together it's almost about chamber musical
sensitivity. The result is music specifically for listening,
and works best for churches, concert halls or maybe really
expensive headphones."

Review - Arvika Nyheter, Sweden
" Inspiring folk music!"
"Micke Marin writes in the CD cover that [ni:d] manages to create the musical
nordic light. That is a metaphor that in a good way describes the music of the
band."
"This is a CD that can undoubtly be recommended for everyone that is interested
in good music. Actually, this is the best folk music CD I have heard for a long,
long time."
